This conference will examine how physics has developed from antiquity to the present day through Kuhn's concept of paradigm shifts. Here are some examples of common contractive paradigms in each of the four key areas I mentioned above. paradigm shift: noun an important change that happens when the usual way of thinking about or doing something is replaced by a new and different way. Although some rather diverse perspectives are included here, the critical paradigm, in general, includes ideas developed by early social theorists, such as Max Horkheimer (Calhoun, Gerteis, Moody, Pfaff, & Virk, 2007), and later works developed by feminist scholars, such as Nancy Fraser (1989). More recently, the advent of special relativity and quantum mechanics superceded the classical ideas of time, space and matter. For example, the increased focus on mechanism-based biological explanations for health and illness, symptom experience, and long-term outcomes began during the 1990s and gained prominence during the early part of this century. As examples, the Copernican revolution overtook the millennium-old Ptolemaic system of astronomy, and likewise Newton's mechanics replaced the ancient Aristotelian system. They argue for a paradigm shift in social science research which they say has already begun. argue that this focus on whether the effects are real is far too limited and distracts from much more important questions. The history of physics can be viewed as consisting of major paradigm shifts followed by decades and even centuries working through the consequences of the dominating paradigm.
